My Camino Journey

Let me take you back to the moment my Camino story began - a chance encounter with a Spain Tourism poster and a borrowed copy of Shirley MacLaine's book had my curiosity buzzing for years. In 2007, after plenty of daydreaming and a few nervous laughs at my own grand ideas, I finally set out to walk the French Way, trekking over 500 miles from France all the way to Santiago de Compostela. It was humbling - blisters, unpredictable weather, moments of wondering why on earth I signed up for this, and days where the only thing pushing me forward was pure stubbornness. And yet, every time I reached Santiago, something deep inside lit up. Instead of ticking the Camino off the bucket list, I just wanted to lace up again and see what else awaited on those winding paths. Fast-forward ten pilgrimages later, I still feel that same sense of discovery every time I set foot on the trail. The Camino is my ultimate escape whenever I need to shake off routine, clear the mental clutter, or remind myself what it means to feel free. This journey has brought me everything from wild laughter with total strangers, to quiet moments of reflection, to a lifelong admiration for the brave souls who walk beside me. The lessons I've learned - on resilience, patience, and finding joy in the simple act of moving forward - are what I want to share with you. Whether you are packing your first backpack or coming back for another round, you'll always find real talk, hard-won tips, and a big-hearted welcome here.

Mercedes Villaman

Founder & Camino Enthusiast

Here's my story: A vibrant poster advertising Spain and Shirley MacLaine's raw account of the Camino planted the very first Camino seed in my mind. It grew quietly for seven years, until in 2007, I finally said, "Why not me?" and headed out to walk the French Way - over 500 miles, each step bringing its own brand of chaos and charm. Yes, there were tough days full of aches, setbacks, and a fair amount of Spanish rain, but that first pilgrimage somehow left me wanting more. Every walk has shown me new sides of myself and the world: joy, grit, freedom, and a fierce love for all kinds of pilgrims. I have trekked ten Caminos, and the next is already on my wish list. The Camino is my personal escape button whenever life feels stuffy or stale. My heart's work is to lift up others with honest stories, prep tips, and laughs so anyone - no matter their age or background - can experience their own Camino magic.
